The Paul Garner Band
John Finn Music are delighted to welcome the incredibly talented Paul Gardner Band to its roster.
The Paul Garner Band is an original, progressive guitar/organ blues trio, and one of the few groups on the scene today with the talent and vision to push the blues into new territory while maintaining a strong connection with the roots. They put out a gritty, funky sound to back Paul's intelligent and cliché-free original blues songs, playing the best, most original and exciting new blues music you will hear anywhere. Individually and collectively the band exhibit the highest standards of musicianship, with Paul Garner on guitar and vocals, Sardinian keyboardist Claudio Corona on Hammond organ, and Jason Ribeiro or Oscar Reynolds on drums.
Paul is an outstanding blues guitarist and song writer, and he really is the full package, if you’re looking for authentic rhythm ‘n’ blues with a spicy dose of originality and a classic British flavour. Paul’s music is primarily drawn from a rich vein of blues out of the 50s & 60s, particularly the British blues innovators, such as Clapton and Green. But rather than trying to mimic those classic blues standards, Gardner prefers to reimagines them in a new and creative way. And not content with this, he also takes songs from other musical genres, and transmutes them into blues in ways not done before. Where else would you hear an old Jim Reeves country tune redressed as a rhythm ‘n’ blues standard, or the reworking of Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay” into a slow blues number.
Born in England, Gardner’s parents relocated to New Zealand when he was a child. Growing up in New Zealand could have been a very long way from any blues influences, but Paul was lucky to have a dad who was also a musician. The guitar came easily to him, and in 2004, he released his debut album, “Love vs Blues”
After returning to the U.K. in 2005, Paul began performing and recording. Nine original tunes plus two covers make up his latest album, “Big Road Blues” - his third release in the UK and fourth album overall. The album was well received, and had some very positive reviews.
